What Do People think?

A recent Star Ledger poll found that 67% of likely voters link Doug Forrester to George Bush. link

I find this amazing! According to Bill Kennedy of Jersey City, "I oppose the war in Iraq. We got in there under false pretenses..."
"...A Democrat in office would be better as a way to fight the Bush administration."

Yeah, Corzine is going to have alot of input on that issue. Raise my taxes, keep the same corrupt Democrates in power in Trenton just to express your disapproval of Iraq. Brilliant.

What's more amazing is the NJ voters DON'T associate Corzine, Codey, Sires, Roberts, or any of the the guys in power with McGreevey. Somehow, he got there all on his own, with no help from anyone.

Bill W makes a good point, and it's directly related to the point you're making. In other words: The more Corzine can be portrayed as "running against Bush" (whatever the hell that means, since he'd be moving from the Senate where he COULD have impact to the Governor's office where he will not), the less he has to account for all the problems Democrats should be held accountable for. Every problem he has to "fix", such as rising property taxes, corruption and so on, happened while Democrats were completely in power. The strategy is, you just keep saying "Bush" and "Rove", loudly and frequently to fill the channel with your message, crowding out messages that would be far less comfortable.

It looks as if Corzine is just going to follow this course all the way down the line. His dwindling numbers suggest this may be risky (the public gets wise to the trick after a while, and media gets sick of being used = you wind up with a backlash), but it's all they've got, and they are betting Forrester's message won't improve either. They had a big lead and figure they can run out the clock. They'll grind out their message and hang on to their lead as best they can while time expires.

The democrats always count on a big Election Day "get out the vote" effort in Jersey to win a close election. That includes a few of the deceased, but it also involves lots of walking around money being spread about Hudson and Essex county. I think democrats can lose every other county but still win a plurality in the state by piling up hugh vote totals in Hudson, Essex and Bergen counties.

I'm still not sure what kind of organization Corzine has in the minority community, and if there's a lot of enthusiasm in the black and hispanic community for Corzine, they are doing a good job hiding it.
